The 5-Minute Rule

I've written about this before; the magical 5-minute rule that we can all use when feeling low, demotivated, or anxious to start something. In this article...

Stop reading and scrolling, and just do the thing you are not doing. Partially or entirely, it doesn't matter.

Got plants, or a whole garden, to water? Spend five minutes watering.

An email (or 700) you've been putting off? Get replying for five!

Tidying up? Five minutes of tidy is tidier than zero minutes...

Sending a friend that first catch-up message? There's never a better moment than the present. Plus, it probably won't even take five minutes.

...

Well, if you are still reading this, then you either think this article is painfully unfunny, or you're a really good procrastinator. Either way, you've already wasted a minute, so now you've got to go and us the less famous 4-minute rule.

Good luck, I hope getting going lifts your mood a little, and happy anti-procrastinating!

Lots of love, JanTalksPsych xx

P.S. Yes, this (unsurprisingly) did take less than five minutes to write. Does it change my life? Nah. Does it help me feel a little brighter and get my brain moving? Yah.
